The Witch of Portobello

Posted on

The Witch of Portobello… Honestly speaking I don’t have a clue where to start. While writing reviews of other books I already decide, while reading, what to write in review but this book is a SPECIAL case. Its full of UNEXPECTEDNESS. Just remarkably UNPREDICTABLE. Full of spiritual, mystical context. One of the best non-fiction book I’ve ever read in my life “yet”. Well, it’s a biography book but it’s not exactly a biography book as the writer himself hasn’t uttered a single word of his opinion nor the person who is being discussed about, consider it as the collection of perception of people associated with Athena about Athena.

How far would you go for your obsession. Obsession for anything that you dream of or desire of. Because without obsession life is nothing. That’s what Paulo Coelho asks every single one of us. In his every book, he always inspired us with something like struggle, love, religion, pain, freedom and so on. That’s what makes him different from others. It’s like he cares for every single one of his readers. That’s how beautifully he writes, addressing singe one of us like he’s talking directly to me. Whenever I read Paulo Coelho I learn and feel something new. His books brought me to a new world. Well at least that’s what I thought about this amazing writer.

This book as expected was also about Believe, audacity, love, religion and dedication. Athena who was a gypsy daughter and highly gifted one, who was also the Witch of Portobello. She found solace in music, dance as it is one of the way of the communication between the Creator and Creature. She was an adventuress goddess. Her purpose was to fill the blank spaces in her life as to find peace. Who doesn’t want peace? Everyone’s want peace in their life, but most of em are willing to go beyond their capabilities to attain that level of peace. The courage to hold on to one’s motive and all the sacrifices it requires a person to find peace! That’s what Athena taught us. She taught us that we are who we believe ourselves to be, how to love without being physical, how to talk without uttering a single world, how everything is revealed to you without knowing anything at all, once you’re devoted to something start doing what you want to do and believe in God, how to see with your eyes closed, and the most important thing she taught us is “Patience”. Why patience, coz it makes us pay attention into the little and the most worthless of the things, we consider. That’s what life is, living moment to moment. Focus on your present coz future is guided by the decisions you make in present. I wished that I wouldn’t have read this book so that I could read it once more without knowing what would happen, again and again. I love this Witch of Portobello

Why do you love me?
She replied, “I don’t know and I don’t care”

Love simply is.

Talking to the Moon

I want to shine with all my pride and glory,
I, with my hands and fingers, wide open;
want to tell people about tales,
want to covey messages of outer space,
want to tell them of the stories of past,
want to tell them about the struggles,
want to tell them about the sacrifices I made
Alas! I am trapped
Alas! I am trapped

These black clouds have covered me from all sides,
Tonight, these dark clouds are ruling the sky,
They are not letting my light reach the ground,
They are absorbing all of my light,
It is dark here even with all of my light,
I don’t see any other way with all the cloudiness around me,
even with all the stars around me I’m alone,
people are so busy that they didn’t notice my absence,
I am losing hope to shine again for these people,
How strange this world could be,
Alas! I am trapped
Alas! I am trapped

I heard a cry, “come out please, come back”
I followed it and between the spaces of the clouds I caught a sight of a boy,
He was sitting on his roof,
He seems to be looking for something in the sky,
pen in hand, book on lap, tears in eyes,
Looking in his eyes, I saw he was searching for me,
He was hoping against hope to get a glimpse of me in this sky full of dark clouds,
Seeing a light of hope in his eyes, it gives me Strength;
Strength to find my way to the light,
Strength to shine for that boy,
Strength to see even a flicker of smile on his lips,
I’m not alone now,
I have hope, I have faith

I’m trying to get out of this place,
But I’m becoming weak,
My light seems to be fading with my weakness,
I have to try, try to shine for one last time,
Not for me but for that boy,
I’m running fast and hard as I could,
I think I’m on track, I saw a sign of light,
A light to escape,
A light to success,
A light to freedom,
I have hope, I have faith

At last, I’m alive again with all my pride and glory,
I have never shone with such intensity before,
because I know that someone down there cares for me,
I see a sight of joy in that boy eyes that run to his lips,
I may not be here forever, but
My memories will live for you, by you, with you, within you,
I believe that now my legacy would be remembered, because
I have hope, I have faith

The Great Gatsby

Posted on Updated on

The Great Gatsby, well starting off with the name itself. It wasn’t supposed to be the
name of the book, The Great Gatsby but Under the red, white and blue, suggested by Fitzgerald, shortly before the novel was due to be published, but It was too late and the work was published by Scribner (Fitz agent) as The Great Gatsby. Well wherever you’ll hear the name of this book, it would be regarded as a “classic” and “everyone loves classic” don’t they, no doubt in that, of course. And you ought to read classic once in a lifetime. But I think the classics should be left unread because only then they stay as a “respected book” under one’s eye. Once you read classics, you’ll start having different thoughts about em.a

It’s not that I was completely uninterested. Neither was it so great that it compelled me to keep turning the page. Neither that great neither that bad. It was a “just fine” time burning piece. On the surface, The Great Gatsby is a story of the thwarted love between a man and a woman. The main theme of the novel, however, encompasses a much larger, less romantic scope. It is considered as a romantic type of novel but snap out of the bubble coz it’s not even a tiny bit of romantic. Well if I rate this book, I’ll rate it 3 stars out of 5. Why 3? Because I love the way Fitzgerald use the selection of words. That way Is really unique. And also I like this name Fitzgerald. I think this book is highly overrated. Moreover, it wasn’t a success when It was first published and I think it is far from “the Great American Novel”

One thing I really liked in this book is the mysterious eyes of T.J Eckleburg. Staring atabc those eyes really put me in deep thoughts personally. Well from top of mind I think these eyes symbolizes decayed social and moral values, evidenced in its overarching cynicism, greed, and empty pursuit of pleasure, loss, scars and extreme tragedy in World War. These owl-eyes are well placed in the novel alongside the Ashes of the Ashes. I personally feel, these eyes also show some kind of deep sadness far from our thinking and judgement.

The characters were really… I mean they don’t really know what they are doing. They are confusing in some matter. Just like the narrator Nick, he just wants to be liked so much and wanna avoid trouble and want to have a great career but all he did was to hangout with Tom, Jay, Jordan and most of the time his thoughts are occupied with what’s Jay doing standing on his terrace. Duh-dude focus on your career, your father will not support you more than a month and who’ll pay $80 for your home. And also Mr. Wilson, God he really became a phsyco in the ending. I think Fitzgerald (I’m using this word so much, but I love the sound of it from my lips) made him a maniac just to kill Jay (psst spoiler alert). The worst ending but praise to the start of this book, really put me in thoughts as I read the fourth line. Awesome. All in all, the characters were not clearly defined which stops you from continuing reading but after all it’s a “classic” and you should read classics and add it to your reading list. Lol

It’s not that I didn’t like anything from this book. I loved how the weather changes as the mode of the writing changed. It completely changes the mood of the reader too. The scenes are perfectly illustrating. I LOVED some of the quotes:

~ “The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.”

~ “Angry, and half in love with her, and tremendously sorry, I turned away.

~ “I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.”

~ “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you have had”

~ “It’s perfect from your irresistible perfect imagination.”

In summation, there was one thing I really liked about The Great Gatsby:

“It was Short”

P. s: Thank God

Song of Myself

Posted on Updated on

It was the best of times,
it was the worst of times,
it was the time of foolishness,
it was the period of chaos,
it was the sky full of shooting stars,
it was the night of two lovers,
it was the spell of magic,
it was the winter of summer,
it was the summer of spring,
it was the spring of autumn,
it was the autumn of winter,
it was the pursuit of happyness

I sing the songs of pure innocence,
the songs of everlasting kiss,
the songs of pure love,
the songs of undying night,
the songs of utter silence,
the songs of pious freedom,
the songs of pleasing pain,
the songs of wise wisdom,
the songs of desirable wish,
the songs of tier dreams,
the songs of eternal peace,
the songs of kingdom of heaven

When I had no eyes I listened.
When I had no ears I thought.
When I had no thought I waited.
When I had no one to trust I trusted myself,
When I had nothing to eat I drank knowledge,
When I had no clothes to wear I wore solace,
When I had fear of failure I played with faith,
When I had nothing to lose I had everything,
You have everything in you, right now,
Everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you,
I think that’s what life is, to
Learn to dance in the rain and
Learn to Live

Life isn’t how many breaths you take,
but it’s the moments that take your breath away,
Drink in the glass of moments,
that takes you far away from this world,
Live moment to moment,
Drink the vine of love and kindness,
Learn to love and let love in,
The one who notice the storm in your eyes,
The silence in your voice,
The heaviness in your heart,
are the ones you need to let in,
There is no more greatness then being in love,
for the two lovers are the lovers of God,
for the two lovers are the messenger of God,
Just have faith and love in your life, in your heart,
for everything that you ever wanted, dreamed of,
There is nothing to be afraid of,
I believe in you my soul,
I believe in the light you contain,
the light to wisdom, courage, poetry and inspiration to spark the inner flame,
Don’t change yourself, just be who you truly are,
not from the outside but from the inside,
keep looking until you found yourself,
I love the person I become,
as I fought for myself, through myself, by myself, from myself
I didn’t change I found myself, and
became the Song of Myself

Freedom of thoughts

Just like the tides of sea,
Who flatters up and down like a waving flag,
that reaches up the sky and then falls like house of cards,
Who brings sounds from the depth of the sea,
to the stones and to the sand on the shore of the sea,
telling them about the freedom from silence,
As they fight for their freedom from the twilight,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like force of gravity,
that pulls you to its deepest soul,
bending you to your scarred knees,
with a single force, never letting you go,
tying you down with a force of depression,
there is a possibility for anti-gravity space,
As they fight for their freedom from swamp of singularity,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like a jaguar wind,
who rushes by my ear with a soundless wish,
Conveying the silent love of two distant lovers,
Carrying the earthly crunch of rustling of fallen leaves,
Scattering the unheard woe of pride and prejudice,
Dispersing the ashes of the ashes that will born again,
As they fight for their freedom from judgement,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like the darkest hour,
that hail above the heads of all,
Cursing us through the ashes of the hell,
Breaking us by the hollowness of a dry cry,
Vain goes all the hopes of light,
Disappearing all the wisdom of conscious,
As they fight for their freedom of Light,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

 Just like a caged bird,
Who wished to sing in an open world,
Where the sun goes timid,
Where the moon turns stale,
Where the wind grace swings,
Where the atmosphere smells of spring,
As they fight for their freedom of oppression,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like a thousand wishes,
I also have only one wish,
To live in the world of serene peace,
Where one find solace in a stranger eye,
Where black and white have the same rights,
Where there is no misery, no fear, no hate, no judgement,
Where each and every one of us is free from chains,
As they fight for their freedom of freedom,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts
