The Great Gatsby

Posted on Updated on

The Great Gatsby, well starting off with the name itself. It wasn’t supposed to be the
name of the book, The Great Gatsby but Under the red, white and blue, suggested by Fitzgerald, shortly before the novel was due to be published, but It was too late and the work was published by Scribner (Fitz agent) as The Great Gatsby. Well wherever you’ll hear the name of this book, it would be regarded as a “classic” and “everyone loves classic” don’t they, no doubt in that, of course. And you ought to read classic once in a lifetime. But I think the classics should be left unread because only then they stay as a “respected book” under one’s eye. Once you read classics, you’ll start having different thoughts about em.a

It’s not that I was completely uninterested. Neither was it so great that it compelled me to keep turning the page. Neither that great neither that bad. It was a “just fine” time burning piece. On the surface, The Great Gatsby is a story of the thwarted love between a man and a woman. The main theme of the novel, however, encompasses a much larger, less romantic scope. It is considered as a romantic type of novel but snap out of the bubble coz it’s not even a tiny bit of romantic. Well if I rate this book, I’ll rate it 3 stars out of 5. Why 3? Because I love the way Fitzgerald use the selection of words. That way Is really unique. And also I like this name Fitzgerald. I think this book is highly overrated. Moreover, it wasn’t a success when It was first published and I think it is far from “the Great American Novel”

One thing I really liked in this book is the mysterious eyes of T.J Eckleburg. Staring atabc those eyes really put me in deep thoughts personally. Well from top of mind I think these eyes symbolizes decayed social and moral values, evidenced in its overarching cynicism, greed, and empty pursuit of pleasure, loss, scars and extreme tragedy in World War. These owl-eyes are well placed in the novel alongside the Ashes of the Ashes. I personally feel, these eyes also show some kind of deep sadness far from our thinking and judgement.

The characters were really… I mean they don’t really know what they are doing. They are confusing in some matter. Just like the narrator Nick, he just wants to be liked so much and wanna avoid trouble and want to have a great career but all he did was to hangout with Tom, Jay, Jordan and most of the time his thoughts are occupied with what’s Jay doing standing on his terrace. Duh-dude focus on your career, your father will not support you more than a month and who’ll pay $80 for your home. And also Mr. Wilson, God he really became a phsyco in the ending. I think Fitzgerald (I’m using this word so much, but I love the sound of it from my lips) made him a maniac just to kill Jay (psst spoiler alert). The worst ending but praise to the start of this book, really put me in thoughts as I read the fourth line. Awesome. All in all, the characters were not clearly defined which stops you from continuing reading but after all it’s a “classic” and you should read classics and add it to your reading list. Lol

It’s not that I didn’t like anything from this book. I loved how the weather changes as the mode of the writing changed. It completely changes the mood of the reader too. The scenes are perfectly illustrating. I LOVED some of the quotes:

~ “The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.”

~ “Angry, and half in love with her, and tremendously sorry, I turned away.

~ “I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.”

~ “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you have had”

~ “It’s perfect from your irresistible perfect imagination.”

In summation, there was one thing I really liked about The Great Gatsby:

“It was Short”

Song of Myself

Posted on Updated on

It was the best of times,
it was the worst of times,
it was the time of foolishness,
it was the period of chaos,
it was the sky full of shooting stars,
it was the night of two lovers,
it was the spell of magic,
it was the winter of summer,
it was the summer of spring,
it was the spring of autumn,
it was the autumn of winter,
it was the pursuit of happyness

I sing the songs of pure innocence,
the songs of everlasting kiss,
the songs of pure love,
the songs of undying night,
the songs of utter silence,
the songs of pious freedom,
the songs of pleasing pain,
the songs of wise wisdom,
the songs of desirable wish,
the songs of tier dreams,
the songs of eternal peace,
the songs of kingdom of heaven

When I had no eyes I listened.
When I had no ears I thought.
When I had no thought I waited.
When I had no one to trust I trusted myself,
When I had nothing to eat I drank knowledge,
When I had no clothes to wear I wore solace,
When I had fear of failure I played with faith,
When I had nothing to lose I had everything,
You have everything in you, right now,
Everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you,
I think that’s what life is, to
Learn to dance in the rain and
Learn to Live

Life isn’t how many breaths you take,
but it’s the moments that take your breath away,
Drink in the glass of moments,
that takes you far away from this world,
Live moment to moment,
Drink the vine of love and kindness,
Learn to love and let love in,
The one who notice the storm in your eyes,
The silence in your voice,
The heaviness in your heart,
are the ones you need to let in,
There is no more greatness then being in love,
for the two lovers are the lovers of God,
for the two lovers are the messenger of God,
Just have faith and love in your life, in your heart,
for everything that you ever wanted, dreamed of,
There is nothing to be afraid of,
I believe in you my soul,
I believe in the light you contain,
the light to wisdom, courage, poetry and inspiration to spark the inner flame,
Don’t change yourself, just be who you truly are,
not from the outside but from the inside,
keep looking until you found yourself,
I love the person I become,
as I fought for myself, through myself, by myself, from myself
I didn’t change I found myself, and
became the Song of Myself

Freedom of thoughts

Just like the tides of sea,
Who flatters up and down like a waving flag,
that reaches up the sky and then falls like house of cards,
Who brings sounds from the depth of the sea,
to the stones and to the sand on the shore of the sea,
telling them about the freedom from silence,
As they fight for their freedom from the twilight,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like force of gravity,
that pulls you to its deepest soul,
bending you to your scarred knees,
with a single force, never letting you go,
tying you down with a force of depression,
there is a possibility for anti-gravity space,
As they fight for their freedom from swamp of singularity,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like a jaguar wind,
who rushes by my ear with a soundless wish,
Conveying the silent love of two distant lovers,
Carrying the earthly crunch of rustling of fallen leaves,
Scattering the unheard woe of pride and prejudice,
Dispersing the ashes of the ashes that will born again,
As they fight for their freedom from judgement,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like the darkest hour,
that hail above the heads of all,
Cursing us through the ashes of the hell,
Breaking us by the hollowness of a dry cry,
Vain goes all the hopes of light,
Disappearing all the wisdom of conscious,
As they fight for their freedom of Light,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

 Just like a caged bird,
Who wished to sing in an open world,
Where the sun goes timid,
Where the moon turns stale,
Where the wind grace swings,
Where the atmosphere smells of spring,
As they fight for their freedom of oppression,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

Just like a thousand wishes,
I also have only one wish,
To live in the world of serene peace,
Where one find solace in a stranger eye,
Where black and white have the same rights,
Where there is no misery, no fear, no hate, no judgement,
Where each and every one of us is free from chains,
As they fight for their freedom of freedom,
Just like the freedom of my thoughts

This review contains hate and curse, read it on your own will, don’t blame me.

i don’t even want to see this cover in my whole life. i despise it NOW!

Alas! I read this book by seeing the ratings. But as everything has a silver lining, thank God this book ended. This book is nothing as compared to Gone Girl or Tell me your dreams. I think the biggest problem is that after reading others reviews about this book and keeping my hopes high, I was so sure that it would be the most thrilling and mystery book ever. These kind of stories can only be written by girl’s coz they are the one who notice such delicate things of hate, jealousy and imagine those things which aren’t real. Just like Rachel who imagine and suppose everything. Anyways the story revolves around the main character Rachel who is a psychopath and drunk as hell. She is a maniac and the most pathetic person who can’t remember her past or present neither knew what’s going on in the whole story. No doubt it was a good time killer book but God seriously it was so lame. I think the writer Paula Hawkins was out of words so she uses words and sentences round and round and round. I think the writer Paula Hawkins was out of words so she uses words and sentences round and round and round. I think the writer Paula Hawkins was out of words so she uses words and sentences round and round and round. As you are irritated by me repeating this line again and again, you’ll know the feeling of me while reading. I had to force myself to continue reading. There is no ups and downs in this story. I literally didn’t like a single thing in this book. This book is filled with “I don’t know I don’t know and I don’t know.” I don’t want to waste any more of my time while writing a lengthy review coz literally somethings aren’t really worthy of it. This is the happiest day of my life. I’m feeling blessed that its finished. May the God put some patience on those people who are currently reading it.

A Case of Exploding Mangoes

Posted on Updated on

This fine piece of true inside story and reflection of history was suggested to me by the head of English Literature Department. After listening to all the Pakistani writers I’ve read he was quite amazed that I still haven’t read Mohammed Hanif.

This cover defines the  assassination.

As the title of book is concerned it perfectly match the story. A case of Exploding Mangoes is literally a case of National Security by General Zia-ul-haq. Most of the events are quite remarkably and fictionally explained well. By reading this book, one can probably figure out that Mohammad Hanif doesn’t like General Zia at all apart from his spiritual mentality. No one can deny that Zia was hell of a smart guy and had a strong sense of humor. Critics says that he was assassinated by America as they sacrificed their own Ambassador on that Pak One plane, by tricking Zia. But the insides, like Hanif, directs the suspicion on the late General’s. Well, whatever may be the case is, the case of Zia died with himself. This book is damn well written. Truly tells us the insides of agencies and their stories which were impossible to spoke off or even believe about. A book filled with thrill, mystery, humor, politics, conspiracy, insides and much more.

My Favorite Quotes from this book:

“Only civilians learn their lessons behind bars, soldiers just soldier on.”

“And I am one of those who oppressed their own souls.”

Fear of Failure: everything that you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear

Posted on Updated on

What are you afraid off?  What’s your greatest fear that blocks your way to ultimate success?

Wants and fear are two vital factors in our life. These are like walking along holding hands with each other. If you want to move on to get to your desire, you’ve to overcome the fear factor. If you want to accomplish your wants, then you’ve to be courageous and virtuous enough to unplug the socket of fear and remember that the only thing standing between you and your future is fear which can eat you alive. It is never too late to have a fresh start. It’s you who decide what right and what’s easy. Many people spend their life dreaming big but they never fulfill these dreams because they let fear stand in their way. To be a successful person it is necessary to overcome the fears. In reality, everything that you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear. Fear isn’t a sin because it comes naturally but we can call it as a curse, so we should exercise caution to get rid of this curse. If you let fear stop you from the things that you are passionate about or dream off, then you’ll end up with loads of regrets and failure.

We must throw some light on the people to whom fear was the main obstacle in their goal. Let’s talk about a famous personality, he was thrown out of his High School football team not due to lesser skills or practice but only due to his short height because he was diagnosed with the Growth Hormone. At that point of utmost disappointment, he didn’t let the fear overcome his desire in fact he fought hard and fought back to accomplish his own desire, his own will. He is currently tLondon-Newshe world’s best football striker on the surface of the earth. He is none other than Lionel Messi. He holds most number of Golden boots in the history of football along with the four Ballon Dior’s. I’m not a fan of football but I’m a biggest fan of Messi spirit and strong desire.

The truth is your emotions are your biggest weapon against your fear and if you can control your emotions then you can control your fear and remember that fear of name increases the fear of the thing itself. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Do one thing every day that scares you”. So don’t be a fear conscious person. You always have to be yourself no matter what the scenario is. You always have to trust yourself. You know yourself better than any other person and just don’t yourself in the conceptual stages trust yourself throughout the process. If you want to be a fear-less person, then the trick is to think outside the box. If you’ve got the guts to try, then don’t afraid to fail. Anything I’ve ever attempted I was always willing to fail. Fear of Failure is one of the top common success-blockers. Remember every step forward gets you closer to your foal, even if that step is small don’t worry better start small then no start at all because of Fear of Failure. You can’t be paralyzed by fear of failure or you’ll never push yourself. You have to keep on pushing because you believe in yourself and in your vision and you know that it is the right thing to do and success will come. Only failure should be taken into consideration as learning experiences that will lead to better knowledge and new strategies to your road to success. So don’t be afraid of it, embrace it. You have to work hard at what you decide to do. WHY? Because most of the people who want what you want are not willing to make sacrifices to achieve that goal. So if you work harder than the most you’re one step, two steps, ten steps ahead of them. It is important to have fun in life along with the hard-work, of course, but we must remember while partying that someone somewhere is working hard, getting smarter and winning. And here’s the interesting part of this topic: ANYONE can do this. You don’t need a God given gift or to be born with special skills, anyone can work hard, you just have to put your mind into it. Talented people are beaten by those who are willing to work hard. That’s the way it is with everything. No pain no gain so be great and beat the FEAR.
